FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Leandro Community Church
Will close as a worshipping community on March 24, 2012
Regretfully, the members of the San Leandro Community Church have decided to close as a worshipping community. We feel that at this point in the life cycle of the congregation, it is time to close. After numerous discussions, our membership has determined that we can best honor our legacy of faithful ministry by dispersing our resources, including ourselves, into new arenas of ministry.
San Leandro Community Church is dually aligned with American Baptist Churches, USA and United Church of Christ. In 1992 it succeeded the Bancroft Avenue Baptist Church, which was founded in 1944. Over these 68 years, through our many, varied ministries, innumerable people from inside and outside the congregation have discovered the wonders of God’s love, grown in faith and received much spiritual and physical nourishment.
For the time being, our church building will continue to host our ministry partners: Building Futures for Women and Children, Children’s Montessori Adventure, Friendship House Association of American Indians, Inc. of San Francisco’s youth program, Hahn Saeng Myung Korean Methodist Church of the East Bay, Healthy at Every Size Think Tank, Heart to Heart, International Christian Worship Center, and Lavender Seniors of the East Bay.
We will celebrate our ministries and legacy with a special worship service and reception, on March 24, 2012 at 2 PM. We invite all our friends from the past and present to join us – please rsvp by contacting our office:
